EA FC 25 announced for 2025 Esports World Cup

EA FC 25 becomes the first sports title announced for the 2025 Esports World Cup, set to take place throughout the Summer of 2025. The tournament will involve the title’s popular Ultimate Team mode where players can create their teams from various cards. Details on the format and prize pool were not disclosed.

2024’s tournament saw 16 players compete in a group stage and playoffs for a share of its $1m (~£784,530) prize pool. The tournament saw João ‘jafonsogv’ Afonso Vasconcelos win the event under the Luna Galaxy banner.

It has not been announced if the EAFC 25 tournament at the Esports World Cup will be separate from the game’s main esports circuit. In September 2024, EA Sports updated its esports ecosystem to provide players with more opportunities to earn a place at the 2025 FC Pro World Championship. The season-ending event will feature 32 players competing for a total prize pool of $1m.

EAFC 25 becomes the 11th title appearing at the 2025 Esports World Cup. It joins the likes of Dota 2, Call of Duty: Warzone, Counter-Strike 2, and more on its ever-expanding roster of tournaments with more likely to be announced soon.

The Esports World Cup Foundation, the organisers of the Esports World Cup, continues to invest significant amounts of money into the project. This month, the organiser expanded its partner programme to 40 organisations to attract more teams from China, Southeast Asia, Latin America and MENA.

Despite the investment, the Esports World Cup Foundation continues to attract controversy from industry stakeholders due to its ties to the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. Discussions surrounding the Kingdom’s human rights record have remained as it keeps expanding its presence in the esports, sports and entertainment industries.
